Scrap Sculpture

Contrary to Slither’s opinion on scrap metal sculptures, I have nothing but praise to shower on the men and women who can scrounge up old, metal relics and scorch them into works of art. In perusing the web for a bit of inspiration, I was astounded at both the variety and complexity of the art form – everything from metallic cows to highly realistic models of the alien from Predator.

Makes me wonder what sort of workshop you would need to get most of the work done.  A big garage?  A machine shop?  A big blow torch and understanding parents?  Anyone know?

Discoveries

IS ARCHIVE

I just recently stumbled upon Joe Infurnari’s The Process, and let me simply say, the comic is a visual feast.  Fires of pure, unabashed jealousy burn through me after regarding his lush and energized pages as well as what I take to be painstaking presentation.  Even the website lends itself to the concept of creative discovery, whereby the visitor plunges into a world still familiar but alien to our own.  Truly worthy of its Eisner nomination, I would highly recommend checking it out.

I also had the recent displeasure of viewing George A. Romero’s Diary of the Dead.  Unlike my relatively positive encounter with his film, Land of the Dead, a few summers ago, the presentation of Diary just seemed a bit to lashed together and above all poorly written.  Good zombie effects, lousy acting.  Being a self-proclaimed, zombie aficionado, I long for a more realistic treatment of the genre, something akin to what Cloverfield accomplished for the monster movie.  Sadly, it looks like I’ll have to wait.

I should also add that I have been immensely enjoying recent reader comments.  Thanks for laughs.

IS ARCHIVE

It’s amazing what a dose of Hibernol and a day’s worth of sleep will do for nasty bug.  Sadly, while I seem to be on the mend I have not delivered on Monday’s update!  Fortunately, I’ve gone ahead and put it in the queue and I should be all caught up for the week.  Monday’s comic has moved to Wednesday, Wednesday’s comic has moved to Thursday, and Friday can be seen at its normally scheduled time.

Seems I caught a small bug over the weekend, and today’s update is going to be a little late.  Funny how I never seem to get sick during the coldest weather but right when it starts getting nice out… WHAM!

Update later today.

Uncommon Fortunes

\"Dang...\"

The common conception about Chinese food is true.  I just ate a whole bunch a while ago and now I’m hungry again!  Curses!  The situation did bear some unexpected fruit, however, as it inspired me to throw together this little doodle.

In other matters, I’m feeling truly enthused about this summer.  For whatever reason, I think it has a lot of potential and if I keep myself motivated good things are bound to be around the corner.  Now, I don’t officially have confirmation from a fortune cookie, I’m willing to hope just the same.
